Welcome! I'm Samantha Kaye Nystrom, a spirited designer with a passion for bringing characters to life through costumes and illustrations.

I am from Orlando, Florida where I started my artistic education dual-enrolled at Marchman Technical College during high school, where I then completed my Associates in Arts degree shortly after. Knowing that I wanted to pursue a lifelong career at The Walt Disney Company, I began my journey with the Disney College Program in the spring of 2013. I continued working in Attractions at the Magic Kingdom until joining the Disney's Live Entertainment Costuming department in 2016. Currently, I am a Production Support Specialist, assisting in technical line art illustrations for operational costumes, studio photography, photo editing and manipulation, and data management of PLM systems. In addition, I am continuing my education by completing my Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design through Disney Aspire at Southern New Hampshire University.

My fascination with costume design began when I was just 11 years old with the discovery of cosplay - a Japanese phenomenon bridging “costume” and “play” together. Through cosplay I am able to showcase my design and craftsmanship skills while creating costumes inspired by animated and theatrical characters. Over the years I have earned over 20 major awards in costume competitions, fueling my passions even more. As a competitive costume maker, I've proudly represented the United States for three international cosplay events held in Spain, France, and South Korea. Additionally, I share my expertise as a special guest at conventions, hosting workshops and instructional panels on costume making and cosplay community involvement.

My design philosophy revolves around capturing the essence of a character while ensuring the costume complements the wearer's silhouette. I enjoy adding intricate embellishments and details through beadwork, fabric manipulation, painting, and rhinestoning, transforming illustrations into tangible masterpieces.
